VASCO: Over 1400 students of Navy Children School, Dabolim, were instructed and trained in fire safety procedures and how to evacuate the school building in record time, recently.
Vasco Fire Safety Officer Dilip Bicholkar said that the aim was to teach children not to panic and be mindful in following safety procedures by reaching the nearest exit point for evacuation.
The school students were supervised and guided Bicholkar in the conduct of the drill. He and his team trained the teachers and the students in the operation of fire extinguishers, basic fire safety, LPG leakage and pointers on handling minor emergencies at home and office. The children were trained in identifying types of fires and the kind of a fire extinguisher to use in respective cases.
Bicholkar informed that as a part of this drill a controlled fire at a very small scale was created in the school. Following the fire bell alarm the entire school was evacuated in an organised manner, in a record time of three minutes.
After a call from the school office, the fire safety officials with the fire engine arrived on the spot and staged the rescue operation for evacuation of stranded students. All were collected at a common assembly point of the school basketball court.
