PANJIM: An Andhra Pradesh native and Indian Navy staffer has been arrested by the Old Goa Police for dashing into a pedestrian at St Cruz, killing him and fleeing from the spot.
An accident occurred near the Manas, Merces circle on April 8 where in an unknown accused person driving his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner dashed into one male pedestrian Manoj Shashidharan, 39. The driver of the vehicle fled away from the spot without shifting the injured to the hospital and did not inform the police regarding the incident. The victim pedestrian sustained serious injuries and thereafter succumbed to those injuries at GMC Bambolim.
The Old Goa Police formed different teams and traced the vehicle and accused person with the help of seized broken parts of four wheeler car from the scene of offence. After police narrowed down a Swift Dzire silver colour vehicle as the vehicle involved in commission of crime the police arrested Naganesh Bandi, 32, staying in Varnapuri, Dabolim.
The accused is a resident of Vishakapatnam, Andra Pradesh and is working in Indian Navy. Accused was hiding his vehicle behind his residential quarters in Varnapuri Naval Quarters and was changing his location to avoid his arrest. He was arrested two days after the incident.
The investigation revealed that the accused was playing in a casino in Porvorim since afternoon on April 7 till late night and left the casino early morning on April 8. He dashed the deceased pedestrian near culvert between Panjim Circle and Merces Circle. The deceased was a native of Kerala and resident of Merces since long time.
