Navy visits houses in Carmona affected by ammo shell falling

MARGAO: A team of the Navy Goa has visited the sites in Carmona where the shells from a firing drill had fallen on Tuesday to ascertain why the empty ammo shells fell off. The Navy has suspended the operations of the live firing drill for now and has further assured the heads of the village and police that they will provide information in advance about such drills in the future. 
According to information the team of Naval officers on Wednesday visited the sites in the Carmona village to inspect the sites and also to ascertain why and how the shells of the ammunition, fell off from the live air firing. It has also been confirmed that the shells that fell from the live air firing was not from any activity on the ground at the Cavelossim firing range. 
The empty shells which hold the ammunition fell off from the aircrafts of Navy Goa on Tuesday morning. Though no major damage has been reported, the Naval team has assured that the same won’t be repeated. 
While the firing has been presently suspended the Navy to further ensure the safety of villagers has assured to send intimation to the police and village authorities half an hour before the aircraft from the Dabolim base. 
The Naval officers expressed surprise on how the ammo shells fell off from the aircraft and have started analyzing the incident. . 
On Tuesday, Carmona villagers were taken by surprise as empty shells of ammunition fell near some houses. The people who were alarmed called the police. The shells were recovered by the team which came for inspection. As per the people who spoke to the officials there was an issue with the route map used during the live air firing. 
Sources added that around 50-60 ammo shells were found with a sizeable amount in one house alone. The ammo shells were also found to have been hot when they were first checked by the locals and the sound of firing also disturbed the villagers.
