PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has charged the government and the BJP of shielding the main culprits behind the Canacona building tragedy and conducting a sham probe.
Addressing a press conference, NCP spokesman Trajano D’Mello accused the BJP and consequently the government of shielding the RCC consultant and the builders who they alleged are the real culprits including political masters, who connived with them in exchange for considerations that benefited individual party leaders as well as the party as a whole.
“It is pertinent to note that the two ex-chief officers were only arrested after the Court passed strictures on the shoddy investigation,” NCP spokesman pointed out adding that the Home Ministry has abetted in shielding the culprits and even made way for the contractor and others to run from the law.
They also pointed out that the Chief Minister’s constantly changing stance on the issue of demolishing of the surrounding buildings proved their case that he has made a deal with the builders to save their buildings from demolition.
According to the NCP, the Goa Engineering College has clearly mentioned that the other buildings too are of the same material, which means that have to be demolished.
The NCP also pointed out how the party’s Canacona Block has even gone to the extent of saying that the tragedy was only an ‘accident.’
The NCP sought to point out then when permissions were being sought, both the MLAs were from the BJP and were without doubt complicit in the entire matter.
“One could never get better evidence of at least one politician ~ the Sports Minister, who himself has a flat in this dubious project,” the NCP said.
