PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has called for building a second runway at Dabolim Airport even as they said that Mopa airport should be built, only when the need for it arises.
Addressing a press conference flanked by its president Nilkanth Halarnkar, the party’s chief spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said that the State should place such a demand.
“The Government should demand and get one more runway at Dabolim to enable flights to land and take off without much intervention of the Navy instead of concentrating on dividers for traffic congestion,” Trajano said.
“There is no hurry to build Mopa. But if and when the need arises, the Goa government should implement compensation on the lines of the provisions in the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011 tabled in Parliament, in dealing with the people whose land has been acquired.” D’Mello said.
Appointed: Manish Bajpai, National President of Nationalist Students Congress, has appointed Ritesh Rawal, Goa President of Nationalist Students Congress, for a second term.
Rawal has been the National Secretary for Nationalist Students Congress earlier.
