VASCO: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State President Jose Philip D’Souza claimed that NCP cannot wait any longer for Congress to decide on the alliance and will declare candidates in most seats on Monday.
“I don’t know why the alliance talks with Congress are still not clear. Though our party leaders are still having talks with Congress leaders in Delhi, considering the delay NCP cannot wait anymore. We have decided to declare candidates in most Assembly seats by January 16,” D’Souza said.
He added, “NCP is still open for an alliance with Congress and other secular parties because we don’t want the secular votes to get divided.”
Commenting on the sudden resignation of two NCP contenders – Nelly Rodrigues (Cortalim) and George Barreto (Navelim) – on Friday, D’Souza said, “I got to know about their resignation decision a few hours ago. I will speak to them to know why they took such a decision. Both of them have worked hard for NCP in their constituencies and that is why they were selected by the party. They have not discussed the issue with me but I will try to convince them.”
