PANJIM: Accusing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of being part of corruption, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday demanded that all buildings adjacent to the under-construction five-storeyed Ruby  Residency which collapsed in Canacona, should either be vacated to check their strength or the entire phase should be demolished and the land taken over by government.
NCP also demanded that the inspection report of the buildings drafted by the Goa Engineering College (GEC) be made public. According to sources, all the three phases of the complex have issues regarding negligence, violation of engineering norms and use of poor quality material.
Ridiculing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s decision to appoint a committee of PWD engineers to assess the causes of the collapse, NCP said that the move was basically to shield culprits involved in the tragedy.
“The credibility of PWD engineers is highly suspect,” the NCP said. “Chief Minister has become part of
corruption. He needs to answer as to why he took a u-turn on his decision to demolish the adjacent buildings?” NCP demanded to know.
