VASCO: The NCP Goa unit lashed out at the State government and Mormugao-based MLAs for their callous attitude towards the dengue-related deaths in Vasco and demanded that the victims’ families be compensated.
At a press conference in Vasco on Thursday, NCP Goa President Jose Philip D’ Souza said the government and MLAs were doing nothing to curb the spread of dengue even though 50 people contracted the disease in the last few weeks.
“For the first time in the port town’s history, five people lost their lives and over five dozen people are undergoing treatment for dengue. However, the concerned MLAs and ministers do not appear to be bothered about such an epidemic,” said D’Souza.
He also demanded that the government explain what it had done to curb the spread of dengue in Vasco. He added, “As they failed to do anything, NCP demands that the govt compensate the victims’ families.”
D’Souza threatened to confront government officials and take to the streets along with the locals if the government did not take steps to solve the problem immediately.
