PANJIM: Days after lots of chest beating and vowing to go it alone in the Lok Sabha elections, the state NCP leadership has said that they will continue to be in alliance with the Congress and will contest the North Goa Lok Sabha seat.
After meeting National Supremo Sharad Pawar, state president Nilkanth Halarnkar said that they would continue to be in the alliance and would get hold of the North Goa seat.
“We have put before him that we are contesting the North Goa seat,” Halarnkar said.
“It will be within the alliance,” he added when asked whether they were still going it alone.
Halarnkar paid a visit to Pawar while attending of the NCP national executive, wherein all NCP state party presidents where NCP has a presence met.
Earlier in the wake of the Congress receiving a resounding defeat in the state polls in four states, the NCP had said that they would break away from the Congress on account of they suffering because of the Congress’ misdeeds.
The state NCP has been under the long held belief that they are victims of Congress’ bad governance which led to their routing in the state elections losing all the seats they contested. Taking a cue from the elections results of Rajasthan, MP, Chhattisgarh and Delhi, the state NCP unilaterally announced that they would go on their own.
After a meeting with Sharad Pawar, all that seems to have changed.
