Addressing a press conference, the NCP has asked for a public apology from D’Souza calling it “nothing short of sacrilege.”
The NCP has also alleged a conspiracy saying that the above statement had come on the heels of the Chief Minister comparing Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik to Fr Cedric Prakash and argued that the CM was intentionally silent on the remarks of prominent BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swami against the Church, saying that it exposes the communal mindset of the Chief Minister.
The NCP alleged that the whole controversy by two ministers was trying to grab polarised votes.
The name of our nation as per the Constitution is Bharat (along with India). It is the official English name of the Republic of India and Bharata Ganarajyam is the official Sanskrit name of the country, while Bharat Ganarajya is the official Hindi name, the NCP argued saying that this statement of the Deputy Chief Minister was unconstitutional and that a person who has taken oath to abide by the Constitution has no right to continue in his present position and should tender his resignation within 24 hours. If not the Chief Minister should sack him immediately.
The NCP has also reiterated its demand to scrap the third Mandovi bridge and use this money to construct a second bridge across Zuari.
