PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party said they would meet their National President Sharad Pawar and take up the issue of registering one’s birth in Portugal which people worry would make them Portuguese citizens.
“We will take up this issue and come up which a solution which we will include in our election manifesto as part of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Such an issue needs to be taken up at the national level,” party president Nilkanth Halarnkar said.
They also criticised Parrikar for “talking out of his hat” on the citizenship issue. “Who is he to certify that ‘Caitu’ (Caetano Silva) is an Indian citizen?” he asked.
They also accused Caitu of falsely swearing on his affidavit that he is an Indian citizen.
The party also said that they will take up the issue of Parulekar continuing in the state cabinet with their National President.
