Panjim: Following directions from the High Court, the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) has decided to identify and demarcate the high tide line (HTL) along the Goa Marriot resort hotel site based on morphological signatures following the guidelines provided by the Union Ministry for Environment and Forest (MoEF).
The Bombay High Court at Goa through a judgment passed in August 2018, while rejecting the second compliance report submitted by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) with respect to the demarcation of the imaginary line parallel to the HTL, drawn from the existing light house across the Hotel Marriot and to remove all the structures falling within the line, had directed NCSCM to identify fresh HTL within four months.
NCSCM in a letter to GCZMA member secretary has said the HTL of 1991 along the Goa Marriot resort hotel site along the Mandovi river will be identified based on morphological signatures as per MOEF guidelines.
The mapping of land use, light house, adjoining structures and other hotel structures including swimming pool, compound wall, etc would be done using Digital Global Positioning System (DGPS) and other appropriate methods.
NCSCM has asked GCZMA to provide all maps and data used by it to prepare the first two report submitted to the High Court, including the final maps and the Judgment of the Court. It has also asked the Authority to ensure access to the site and safety of the filed team. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 11.31 lakhs.
