PANJIM: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has recommended the National Coastal Zone Management Authority (NCZMA) approve the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for Goa with a request not to include heritage houses as notified by the Town and Country Planning Department.
Earlier this month, the GCZMA forwarded the CZMP drafted based on the 2011 CRZ Notification to NCZMA for their final approval and notification by the Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), accordingly. The Chennai-based National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) had been working on the plan since 2016. During a recent meeting, the Authority decided not to notify heritage houses notified by the TCP Department as it will create a conflict of interest and commotion and chaos in the minds of the people as to what is the reason for showing only particular houses and ignoring other houses,” the GCZMA decision said.
The Authority reiterated its decision to depict only archaeological and heritage sites and structures falling within the CRZ along with the site of fishing jetties and ramps provided by the Department of Fisheries in CZMP 2011
“The Authority had already decided to remove all structures from the plan except the structures identified by the Archives Department and the Department of Fisheries, as per details available,” the Authority noted.
