NDPS accused assaulted in Colvale jail

MAPUSA: A group of under trial accused assaulted an accused booked in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act case at Colvale jail.
Reliable sources informed that a group of 4 to 5 accused persons who were under trial lodged in Colvale Central jail allegedly entered into the cell of one accused arrested in NDPS case and assaulted him causing him severe injuries.
The injured accused is identified as Sarfaraz Shaikh. However, the issue was then orally solved as the injured gave in writing that he does not want to get medically examined. 
However, though the injured denied to get medically examined, the jail in-charge Bhanudas Pednekar failed to get the injured medically examined while risking the injured accused life. Even a case is not registered.
Meanwhile, several such incidents have previously reported in Colvale central jail where trial accused have assaulted other accused booked in other cases by allegedly entering into their cells. 
Recently the crime branch had conducted raid and had seized narcotic drugs as well as mobile phones from accused persons. However, sources claimed that illegal activities are taking place continuously at the jail. Meanwhile the security staff of IRB deployed at the entry point personally check all the IRB and jail staff except for assistant superintendent and higher authorities.
