Nearly 8,189 take jab in State on day-1 of ‘Tika Utsav’

PANJIM: Nearly 8,189 people were inoculated during the ‘Tika Utsav’, a vaccination drive that commenced in the State on Sunday. a

As per the information shared by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), 4,341 people were vaccinated across 16 panchayats. 

Another 3,848 took jabs at various public and private hospitals, taking the number of persons vaccinated to 8,189. 

The drive was held across 16 panchayats namely Pilerne, Penha-de-Franca, Socorro, Pirna, Thane, Nagargao, Nachinola, Morjim, Narve, Oxel, Merces, Korgao, Pale, Mencurem, Poinguinim and Cumbarjua. 

As the nationwide drive concludes on April 14, the State government intends to continue it till April 20 to ensure that everyone, above the age of 45 is vaccinated. 

To ensure smooth functioning of the drive, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanavade visited various panchayats to see the public response. 

A pilot run of the drive was also held in five panchayats on Saturday, wherein 1,473 persons were vaccinated. There were 6,268 who got vaccinated in public and private hospitals. 

As such, in last two days, a whopping number of 15,930 beneficiaries got immunized. 

“Glad to see the positive response for Tika Utsav. There has been tremendous participation for the COVID-19 vaccination in the State of Goa. Together, we will fight and defeat the virus,” Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant tweeted.
