SANGUEM: It’s almost a year since three members of a family died after their car plunged into the river at Taripanto Bridge at Sanguem, but the PWD officials are yet to install either a barricade or a retaining wall at the entry point of the bridge towards Taripanto end.
The locals have been demanding that the authorities take immediate measures to install permanent barricades or construct a retaining wall at the Bridge.
They complained that due to the overgrown wild trees by the bridge side, the deep trench leading to the river at the starting point of the bridge is not visible and the metal barricades, installed after the tragic accident, have gone missing thereby putting the lives of road users at risk.
It is pertinent to note that on August 1, last year, a couple and their two-year-old son died at Taripanto, after the car driver lost control of the vehicle, while descending the slope and the car plunged into the river.
However, the tragedy could have been averted, if there was a permanent barricade or a retaining wall at the entry point of the bridge on the steep slope.
