DKA chief vows to work for upliftment of Konkani

MARGAO: Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao Damu Naik has underlined the need to protect and preserve Goan culture, identity and Konkani language.
Speaking at the Dalgado Konknni Akademi Awards 2012 function at the Ravindra bhavan here on Thursday, Damu said the rich Goan culture, identity and the language should be preserved and protected for the future generations.
In his address, President of Tiatr Academy of Goa Prince Jacob said complimented the award winners and appealed to them to continue the good work for the benefit of Konkani language. He also praised the work put in by Dalgado Konknni Akademi and patted its president Premanand Lotllikar for working tirelessly to carry forward the good work.
President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi Premanand Lotlikar said that the Akademi is committed to work for the development and promotion of Konkani language. He told the gathering that the Dalgado Konknni Akademi is not against any script, but is committed towards the upliftment of the Konkani language.
Dalgado Heritage Award winner, Timoteo Fernandes suggested to the government to set up a Folk Art Academy for the promotion and protection of rich Goan folk art.
The Akademi honoured a host of personalities with the Dalgado awards 2012 in various fields: Jose Menino Do Rosario with the Dalgado Literary award for his life time contribution to Konknni literature in Roman script; Anil C Devulkar popularly known as Anil Kumar and Antonette Pereira popularly known as Antonette de Calangute with Dalgado Cultural award for their life time contribution to Konknni culture; Timoteo Fernandes with the Dalgado Heritage Award; Goan Folk Art Center’s Joaquim Jose Lourenco Fernandes with the Dalgado Konknni Institution Award; Pio Esteves with DKA’s Fr Freddy J da Costa Award for Journalism in Konknni in Roman script and Mathew De Souza with the DKA Youth Award 2012.
