Talpona health sub-centre, catering to Sadolxem, Talpona and Galgibag villages in Canacona runs without basic facilities like water, electricity and washroom.
The sub-centre housed in the rented premises of Captain of Ports, at Talpona caters to over three thousand young and old and a nurse and a male assistant. The staff and the patients who visit for medical attention face hardship, the sub-centre has the necessary pipeline in place but there is no water in the taps as there is neither PWD water supply nor well water.
The staff, patients and people accompanying them have to sweat it out in darkness as there is no electricity supply, the doors and windows are not in good shape and the area around is covered with thorny overgrowth.
In the absence of a secured gate and doors, miscreants enter the premises in the cover of darkness creating all types of nuisance.
The panch representing Talpona Rudresh Namshikar told Herald that he has already initiated efforts to clear the vegetation from the premises and he has sent letters to authorities to get water and electric connection to the sub-centre.
A social activist, Pradeep Mokhardkar who resides a few meters away from the sub-centre complained, saying some miscreants visit the premises and cause nuisance under the influence of alcohol, on some occasions they also damage the property of the sub-centre.
He also suggested the appointment of a security guard.
Sources at Canacona community health centre who manage the sub-centre said that they are running the centre since the past two decades and the actual owners are captain of ports and the issues which are hampering the application for water and electrical connections are being sorted out and files in this connection too is under process, as they are await the NOC from the local panchayat they said.
