Nelly condemns assault on self and supporters

MARGAO: Former South Goa ZP Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues, who was hospitalized after being assaulted at Sancoale, has condemned the incident and demanded justice for her supporters and son, who were also assaulted.

She also stated that she will file a complaint with the Human Rights Commission and Verna police station.
Verna police booked Sancoale ZP member Mariano Gilbert Rodrigues, Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar, Zuarinagar residents Vagir, Kariya, Shekappa, Sai, Ganesh, and Bulla for assaulting Nelly, her son and her supporters at a medical camp in Birla-Zuarinagar on Thursday. The accused were arrested and released on bail on Friday.
Verna police stated that the accused had formed an unlawful assembly with common objective of opposing the medical camp organised by Nelly. They later abused Nelly’s son Preston and assaulted him. One Namdev Lamani tried to rescue him, but he was also assaulted and abused. The accused also threatened them with dire consequences before leaving the spot.
Nelly was admitted to Hospicio Hospital, Margao on Thursday night due to chest pain after the assault.
