MARGAO: The Goa Vikas Party (GVP) on Friday has inducted into its fold former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket aspirants of Cortalim, Navelim and Sanguem.
Now, GVP will field Nelly Rodrigues from Cortalim, George Barretto from Navelim, Rakhi Naik from Sanguem and Gopaldas Anand Arlekar from Pernem.
The new entrants have criticised NCP for failing to move fast into election process.
Addressing the press in Margao, GVP President Lyndon Monteiro informed that his party would to contest at least eight seats which include Benaulum, Cuncolim, Velim, Nuvem and two more constituencies in North Goa.
Lyndon said that the new entrants would soon file nominations from their respective constituencies. “The party has received tremendous response in these days and many more will join us soon,” he said.
“We are not in league with any political. Post poll we have to support some government and our supporters will play a major and they will opine,” Lyndon added.
Nelly said, “I contested last time on the GVP. But since nothing concrete happened I stayed out. I also apologise for going to NCP.”
“NCP kept us hanging till the last moment. We asked them to take firm decisions but nothing was materializing. When Congress finally gave out the names of their candidates, I returned to GVP,” she explained.
George Barretto said, “Luizinho is pressurizing me to back out after failing to keep his promise that he won’t contest in Navelim.”
Meanwhile, Rakhi Naik said that she has conveyed her decision of leaving the party to NCP’s Supriya Sule.
