Nerul Comunidade Attorney issued show cause for misrepresenting facts

The Administrator of Comunidades, North Zone, had also issued a notice to Romana Cardo for continuing as attorney for more than six years in contravention of Article 50 of Code of Comunidades

MAPUSA: The Administrator of Comunidades, North Zone issued a show cause notice to Comunidade of Nerul Attorney Romana Cardo for allegedly misrepresenting facts that the shares of the comunidade were in the name of Pedro Paul De Souza of Nerul and got them transferred fraudulently in her name, thereby acting against the interest of the comunidades for personal benefit and monetary gain while officiating as the Attorney.

Earlier, the Administrator of Comunidades, North Zone had issued a notice to Cardo for continuing as attorney for more than six years in contravention of Article 50 of Code of Comunidades, which stipulates that an office-bearer cannot continue for more than two consecutive terms.

Further despite the complaints filed by the original shareholders and FIR registered at the Porvorim Police Station, she did not bother to transfer the shares back to the original shareholders and also failed to surrender them. In the show cause, Cardo was asked to give an explanation as to why necessary action as per Article 74 of Code of Comunidades should not be initiated against her for harming the interest of the comunidades, why she should not be suspended with immediate effect and why the shares should not be confiscated?

She was asked to file reply on or before February 16. The next hearing in the matter has been posted on February 22 at 10.30 am.

After Porvorim Police booked Cardo under Section 420 IPC, Cardo had applied for anticipatory bail and granted interim relief till March 1, 2023.

Meanwhile reacting to the land grab 2.0, member of Guirim Comunidade Tulio de Souza said, “I condemn this type of illegal transfer of shares without following the laid down procedure as per the law.”

“The investigation should start from the administrator’s office as to how the shares are transferred to non-Gaunkars or land holders,” Oldrin Pereira from Aldona Comunidade demanded.
