PANJIM: Deputy Sarpanch of Netravali Village Panchayat Abhijit Desai has approached the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking to quash a molestation case against him and alleging that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar pressurised Goa police to file the FIR.
The petitioner has challenged the FIR charging him for outraging the modesty of a woman. In the affidavit, Desai said that the woman had filed a complaint against him accusing him of posting a defamatory statement on Facebook with a copy marked to the Chief Minister, who marked the same to SP (Superintendent of Police), Cyber Crime ‘for appropriate action’ on July 17, 2018.
“The complaint was finally forwarded to the Inspector, Cyber Crime Cell, who without conducting any inquiry and apparently under pressure (from) Chief minister, rushed to register the FIR under sections 500, 509 of IPC, wherein the petitioner (Desai) was named as an accused,” he further said.
Desai said his social work has generated jealousy and rivalry from people who do not desire to see his success.
