SANGUEM: Netravali farmers were trained on preparing cosmetic and other medicinal products from the plants growing there and also how to distribute these plants to people. This was undertaken at the ‘Farmers training programme on medicinal plants and value addition’ held at Verlem in Netravali for the local farmers to equip them to add value to medicinal plants.
The workshop was conducted by Dr Swapnil Shinde who provided hands on training in creating value added products. The farmers were trained to prepare soaps and even chocolates. Besides, they were also trained to prepare medicinal oils such as ‘Nirgundi oil’ to relieve pain and Hibiscus oil for hair growth.
Dr Mahesh Verlekar outlined various government schemes available for medicinal plant cultivation and provided valuable information for farmers looking to engage in this sector.
Subhash Velip, Chairman of Atal Gram Development Agency, shared how the government was helping the farmers through strawberry cultivation, while Sushant Goankar, Arogyadhyam President shed light on the organization’s societal welfare initiatives and encouraged attendees to take advantage of the facilities provided.
Guest speaker Vijaykant Goankar stressed the significance of farming, emphasizing its role in sustaining communities and contributing to the overall well-being of society.
The training was organised by Regional cum Facilitation Centre Western Region (RCFC-WR) of the National Medicinal Plants Board, in collaboration with Netravali Health Society’s Arogyadhyam and Rotary Club Margao Midtown.
