SANGUEM: The officials from the Electricity Department at Sanguem have attributed the power supply problems in Netravali and Wadem to the large number forest trees in these areas.
Addressing media persons at Sanguem, Executive Engineer Vinayak Mashelkar informed that most power poles and cables in Wadem and Netravali are passing through dense forest and despite every precautionary measure by the department to regulate continuous supply of power to the two villages, tree falling incidents disrupt the power supply to these two areas.
Mashelkar said the recent incident of power supply in the village was due to falling of trees on the power cables in the two villages due to bad weather and cyclonic winds. The major damage was caused in Netravali wherein power poles were also damaged.
“After the reported incidents of trees falling on the cables, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar and Curdi Wadem sarpanch Kushta Gaonkar assisted the linesman in removing the fallen trees. Gaonkar personally helped the linesman in shifting the trees, which had fallen on the cables,” he said.
“Given the large number of forest trees all along the power supply line, the department through efforts of Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has started laying underground cables in Netravali, Wadem, Kurpem and Sulcorna at Rs 35 crore and the same is in progress. The work of laying the underground cables was expected to be completed by June end, the same is delayed because of COVID-19 and for want of labour. However the same will be completed soon,” Mashelkar informed.
“Once the work of laying underground cables is completed, the two villages will be free from the frequent power problems,” the officials informed.
The press briefing was attended by AE Dinesh Gomes and JEs Anil Gaonkar, Sanjay Gaonkar and Krishna Naik all attached to Electricity Department Sanguem.
