MARGAO: A 22-year-old migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh living in Majorda, lost her infant on Sunday due to asphyxia, the police said.
Asphyxia is a condition arising when the body is deprived of oxygen, causing unconsciousness or death; suffocation.
According to the Colva police, the woman was residing along with her husband, daughter and a one-and-half-year-old daughter, apart from her infant behind the temple at Majorda. The infant was was born just a week old. On Sunday while she was feeding her child, he became breathless. He also had a high fever and became unconscious.
Taking note of this, the police said thereafter the baby boy was taken to South Goa District Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. Police said that a post-mortem report has said that the infant died due to asphyxia. Colva police have registered a case under 174 of CrPC as unnatural death and have ruled out any foul play.
