New collectorate building can meet needs for 25 years: CM

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Saturday said the new South Goa Collectorate building will answer all questions relating to space constraints and inadequate facilities and would take care of the requirements for the next 25 years.
The chief minister was addressing a Vanmahotsava function within the premises of the new collectorate building under construction here this morning.
Saying that the new building has a provision for a helipad for the VIPs to land, the chief minister said the parade ground would help in holding important national and state events within the complex. “Once completed, this building would be the best Collectorate building in the entire country”, he added.
The chief minister, however, appealed to the collectorate staff to render quick and speedy service to the common man. “This is one building where maximum people come for their work. The staff should give quick and speedy delivery to the people. It is in your hands to make this building a role model for others to emulate,” he said.
The chief minister said people visiting the collectorate building should return home satisfied with the services rendered by the staff and feel that people working in the building are there to serve them.
The chief minister further said that the government has tendered construction of a revenue building in the Port Town of Vasco.
On the occasion, the chief minister told Forest Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues to plant fruit bearing trees as part of the Forest department ongoing exercise. “When there are fruits, let anyone eat them. Fruit bearing trees will help everyone. It will also help in sending a right message,” Kamat added.
The Forest Minister later said the department is laying stress on the maintenance of plants grown every year as part of social forestry.
Saying that the purpose of growing plants would be defeated if the plants do not survive, Filipe Neri said the Forest department will plant fruit bearing trees as per the advise from the Chief Minister. “Every year, we plant around 5-10 lakh saplings. But, our stress now is to ensure the saplings grow into plants. Otherwise the entire purpose will be defeated if the plants are not nurtured well”, he added.
