PANJIM: While all the vehicles are coming fitted with tamper-proof High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) from April 1, 2019; the State government has now directed that all vehicles registered prior to this day be also fitted with HSRP only through government-selected agency M/s Real Mazon India Limited.
The order comes in compliance with the Central government’s notification mandating that HSRP including the third registration mark, wherever required, shall be supplied by vehicle manufacturers along with the vehicle manufactured on or after April 1, 2019 to their dealers. This decision has been taken in a bid to protect against counterfeiting.
In a public notice published in some dailies on Monday, the State Directorate of Transport has stated that the process of installing HSRP on the vehicles will begin from October 1, 2019.
“Whereas the Government of India vide Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) 1989 through Gazette Notification dated March 28, 2001 and subsequent Notification dated December 6, 2018 making it mandatory for the vehicle registered prior to April 1, 2019 to be affixed with HSRP. The Government of Goa has decided to implement …. through M/s Real Mazon India Limited, a contractor selected by way of tender process,” reads an extract of the notice.
It has also directed that vehicles plying on the roads fitted with imitation HSRPs/anti theft registration plates/smart number plates or plates with lookalike security features such as hologram/IND mark/ “INDIA” inscription, etc should within one month from the appointed date replace their registration places with HSRP. The government has warned of action against vehicle owners who don’t comply with the directions.
As per the chart, the government intends to complete the process by August 2020.
