MARGAO: The ongoing sewerage work on the National Highway near the Margao Kadamba bus stand has continued to cause hardships for commuters, even as the latest traffic diversion in front of the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) has attracted strong criticism from road-users.
As per the new diversion in front of SGDH, vehicles proceeding towards Margao must take the left on a new one-way lane before they come to the South Goa District Collectorate building, where there is yet another diversion. To make matters worse, the quality of the road at the SGDH diversion is very poor, causing vehicles to halt and subjecting commuters to a bumpy ride. Commuters have questioned why the road could not have been properly hot mixed and smoothened, as it creates another traffic bottle neck on the stretch. During peak hours, the entire stretch right up to the Old Market Circle gets congested due to these multiple traffic diversions. Those traveling by buses in particular face a major inconvenience due to the traffic snarls in the area.
