PANJIM: The swearing-in ceremony of Dr Pramod Sawant as Goa’s chief minister will be held on March 28 in the presence of prominent BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J P Nadda. The chief ministers of various BJP governed States will also attend.
A statement issued by the BJP Goa Unit stated the ceremony will be held at 11 am at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium where preparations for the event have begun.
The BJP has already staked claim with Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai to form the government and submitted letters of support of 25 MLAs. The
Governor has invited Sawant to form the next government. Three-time MLA Sawant was unanimously elected as Goa’s next CM during a Legislature Party meeting held in the party headquarters on Monday.
The BJP, which won 20 seats in the 40-member House, will form the government for the third straight term with the support of two MLAs of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three Independent legislators.
However, some BJP MLAs have expressed their opposition to MGP’s entry in the cabinet but the party leadership has decided to maintain the alliance with the regional party.
