New Hospicio to have a trauma unit

Ahead of the commissioning of the new District Hospital at Margao expected by Oct, the govt has emphasised on setting up a Trauma Unit as it plans to run the upcoming hospital on a unique model.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane alo said that the govt will also prioritise suggestions to take over the ESI hospital morgue in order to overcome the shortage of morgues in South Goa. The minster was responding to a volley of questions by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and MLA Churchill Alemao seeking a well-equipped hospital for South Goa. “Cardiology, Orthopaedic and Neurology departments can be set up on the upper floor of the hospital. Start the Trauma Unit in the Neurology department,” Kamat suggested while Alemao insisted that a Trauma Unit be also set up as it would attend the patients, particularly accident victims, without any delay. “Travelling till the other hospital like GMC consumes a lot of time. Therefore, the Trauma Unit is very important in South Goa. This unit should also have 24X7 doctors available for the patients,” Alemao said.
To this, Rane said the project which will go up to Rs 216 crore is expected to be handed over to the DHS by GSIDC by Sept 30, 2019.  He also stated that another Rs 35 cr approx. would be spent on improvements after which the hospital will be inaugurated. The govt, he said will also check if the morgue of new hospital can be commissioned first. Rane also conceded that GMC has been overburdened but, he added, the govt has been giving the best of the facilities. He pointed out to the water woes during the then tenure of PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar. All PHCs and CHCs will also be equipped with emergency rooms soon, “ he added.
MLA Tony Fernandes requested the minister to start any medical facility in the new hospital, full- fledged as a patient should not be inconvenienced to travel from one to another hospital for treatment of any ailment.
