PANJIM: Goa Medical College and Hospital will see a new full-fledged laboratory for health check up and the new Super Specialty Block in the coming year 2020.
GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar said that GMC will be achieving many more milestones in 2020 and continue to serve the people of Goa.
“We are trying to put in new laboratory for regular health checkups for people of Goa, which will commence from February,” he said adding, “As per the dream project of health minister, the Super Specialty block will be inaugurated this year for the benefit of all Goans.”
Wishing all Goans on behalf of team of doctors a happy new year, Dr Bandekar said, “While we are looking at better parameters of health in Goa Medical College, I would request each one of you to exercise for half an hour daily, maintain a balanced diet and avoid toxic food substances specially the fast food which has plenty of oil and fatty tissues, concentrate on meditation and yoga.”
In October, the government conveyed to the Dean release of Rs 60 crore in 12 instalments of Rs 5 crore each towards setting up of super-specialty block in GMC under Phase III of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
The order issued by the Under Secretary of Public Health department Trupti Manerkar said that the Dean of GMC is permitted to draw and credit the said amount.
The foundation stone for the construction of the 520-bed super-specialty block of Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, being built under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), was laid by the then chief minister late Manohar Parrikar.
The super-specialty block will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 386 crore in 52,530-square metre area at GMC premises.
