PANJIM: Taking cognisance of a complaint filed by an employee of the Official Language Department regarding the lifts at Junta House not working and causing inconvenience to persons with disability (PwD), Goa State Disability Commissioner assured to get the lift replaced within the next two months.
Speaking to Herald, Goa State Disability Commissioner Anuradha Joshi said, “After I received the complaint this morning I visited Junta House and noticed that lifts were non-functional and beyond repairs. Also, the contract had expired and being old machines their parts were also not available.”
Joshi added, “I got in touch with Public Works Department (PWD) who maintains the building and I got to know that the tender has been passed for replacing both lifts and it will require at least two months to install the new lifts.”
The Commission is also trying to make alternative arrangements so that persons with disabilities who require to visit the offices in the building are not inconvenienced.
Earlier, an employee of Official Language Department, Patrick who himself has disabilites, had filed a complaint with the Goa State Disability Commissioner about the hardships persons with disabilities are facing due to the breakdown of the two lifts in Junta House.
“I am willing to be there for any agitation with persons with disability to assert their right of mobility,” the employee said.
