PANJIM: Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) vice-chairman Siddharth Kuncalienkar on Monday said that progress on the construction of the new bridge over River Mandovi has touched 70 per cent and it will be completed in October this year.
He also said that the new bridge will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Kuncalienkar said, “The bridge project on River Mandovi is one of the few important projects in India. In the case of bridges, we have met all the demands of the National Green Tribunal and all the reports they want. After the construction of the bridge, all the routes going to Ponda, Margao and Old Goa will be free and there will not be any type of traffic congestion.”
The bridge was to be initially completed by April 2017. But it missed the first deadline and, later, could not be completed by December 2017 either as expected. The project is worth over Rs 500 crore. The 660m-long bridge will have 40 cables anchoring the segments to the four pylons that are grounded into the river bed.
