PONDA: The long pending dream of Pondaaites to have an independent police station for Mardol has materialised with the government notifying the new one in Ponda taluka. The new police station will be inaugurated on June 8 by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Out of four constituencies here, the entire seven villages of Priol constituency will now come under Mardol Police Station. Similarly Part of Marcaim constituency including IDC Marcaim, IDC Kundaim and Kundaim village will come under Mardol PS.

Locals were now optimistic that with the bifurcation of the police station, the crime detection rate would be high at both places.

Local MLA and Sports Minister Govind Gaude said the aim of this police station was to reduce the burden on the Ponda police which was catering to a vast area of the taluka right from Banastari to parts of Dharbandora besides Usgao, Shiroda and Panchawadi villages.

Mardol Police Station was earlier an outpost and today it is an independent police station, he said.

The new police station will now have a new Police Inspector, PSIs, lady police, staff but will have a common DYSP who will monitor Ponda and Mardol stations.
