MARGAO: The controversy over the All Goa Bodybuilding Competition scheduled on May 3 at the Pimpalkatta, Margao has deepened with agitated Margao New Market traders vowing to stop the competition from taking place at the venue.
The New Market traders assembled in front of the Lord Damodar temple at Pimpalkatta and vowed to oppose the bodybuilding competition tooth and nail. “As per the order issued by the former district Collector G P Naik, Pimpalkatta can play host to religious activities only, including Ganesh Chaturthi, holy and religious pooja. How can the authorities give permission for a body building competition at a place of worship?” questioned president of the New Market Traders Association Vinod Shirodkar.
He pointed out that the Pimpalkatta cannot be misused by any organisation when it is a place of worship. “We are not against the bodybuilding competition, but against the venue. How can you allow such a competition near a place of worship?” he asked, and asserted that the New Market traders will not allow the competition to take place at Pimpalkatta.
The competition organised by Yuva Margao headed by Devi Borkar is expecting around 70 entries this time. Former BJP MLA Damu Naik had unveiled the trophy at a function held at the Ravindra Bhavan on Monday.
