MARGAO: Newly-appointed Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer, S L Naveen (IAS) has said that he would accord top priority to solid waste management, including door-to-door waste collection and to toning up the Municipal administration to make it people friendly.
Naveen, who took charge on Monday morning from outgoing chief officer, Narayan Sawant, held a meeting with the section heads in a bid to put the administration on the right track.
Speaking informally to the media, he disclosed plans to accord top priority to garbage management, including door-to-door waste collection scheme.
When his attention was drawn to the huge outstanding recoveries staring at the Margao Municipal Council, Naveen promised to put a system in place and to streamline the payments of taxes by the citizens.
“I have taken cognisance of the huge outstanding recoveries and a system will be put in place to effect recovery. I am planning to start a cheque drop box facility and on-line payment to ensure hassle free payments,” he said.
Towards making the administration people friendly, the Chief Officer has disclosed plans to start a 24-hour helpline, wherein citizens will be free to call on the number and register their grievances at any time of the day.
Sources in the know said the new Chief Officer is in favour of roping in self help groups to manage the door-to-door waste collection in view of the huge financial liabilities facing the civic body on that front.
