New police station set up for Mopa airport

PANJIM: With Mopa international airport set to commission in August 2022, a new police station has been set up exclusive for the upcoming airport. 

Headed by station in-charge Mahesh Kerkar, the police station has a staff strength of 23 personnel. Besides the PI, it has one police sub inspector, two assistant sub inspectors, four head constables, 14 constables and one lady constable. 

The order was issued by the department superiors on Friday. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the first phase of the Greenfield airport. The construction of the runways, taxiways, passenger terminal building, ATC tower, administration building, compound wall among other infrastructure, was underway as per the government’s information shared with the public last year. 

Outgoing CM Dr Pramod Sawant had said that court clearances and the COVID-19 pandemic had led to delays in implementation of the project.

The initial estimated cost of the project was Rs 1,900 crore and it was revised to Rs 2,615 crore.
