PORVORIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday told the House that government was in the process of bifurcating existing police stations by setting up new, in a phased manner, considering the number of crimes reported in the jurisdiction.
“There has been demand with the government to have several police stations. We will study the crime detail in each of the areas and will decide on having police stations in those areas – basically bifurcation,” Parrikar said responding to a question on the Floor of the House.
Parrikar said that the creation of police stations would be done in a phased manner.
“The comprehensive discussion on this issue is on. Police Dept has given the list of requirement of police stations. We need police stations but creation of infrastructure is not possible immediately,” he said.
Parrikar .was responding to the demand raised by BJP Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral during Question Hour. Following a series of desecration incidents, Cabral demanded that the government bifurcate Curchorem police station, which takes care of a much larger area.
“The process has started at many places. Step one would be to create police station within existing police station building. The second step would be to create required manpower for that,” Parrikar said. holds the Home portfolio, said.
The Chief Minister said the process to identify land to set up new police stations has also begun at various places.
The initial question was tabled by MGP MLA Dipak Pauskar who sought to know whether the government intends to set up a separate police station at Kirlapal Dabal area. The MLA also questioned on the steps the government intended to take after the mining season resumed, as it created a load on the existing infrastructure.
The Chief Minister informed that he would hold a joint meeting of the Police, Transport, Mining Department and mining companies to ensure smooth plying of the trucks, once iron ore export season started after the monsoon.
