New State leadership has taken a different direction post demise of my father: Utpal

Word ‘trust’ and ‘commitment’ was important focus point of Manohar Parrikar rule which now don’t exist

PANJIM: Apparently not happy with party’s decision to induct Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate into the party fold, Utpal, son of former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar said the new State leadership under BJP has taken a different direction post demise of his father.
Speaking to media persons, Utpal said the word ‘trust’ and ‘commitment’ was the important focus point of Manohar Parrikar rule which now don’t exist.
“Bhai (Parrikar) had given commitment to MGP and Vijai Sardesai, both who stood with him even during his illness and ensured a stable government. There was never instability. They respected Bhai’s trust,” he said.
“Bhai’s way forward…directions… ended on March 17 with his death. This is a new road or direction that the new leadership has taken. We will have to wait and see how party’s old and loyal ‘karyakartas’ react to this,” Utpal added.
“I will stand by my ‘karyakartas’. Time will only tell whether this new direction is acceptable to the workers or not,” he said.
Reacting to Monserrate entry, Utpal said that he would not like to comment on it at this point, though he sounded disappointed.
“Babush himself has no idea where he will be by the time next election comes. So why should I have need to comment on him,” Utpal said when asked whether he will work for Babush.
Monserrate had defeated BJP candidate Siddharat Kuncolienkar during the recent Panjim by election, the seat that BJP ruled under Parrikar for 25 years.
