MAPUSA: Councillor of Mapusa Municipal Council Rajsingh Rane on Friday submitted a letter to the PWD Water Division highlighting the mismanagement and mess created due to the ongoing work of laying a new water pipeline at Khorlim area.
In the letter, he highlighted the problems faced by the public due to the work carried out which was started in January and is still incomplete. The extracted mud has been dumped along the road which is leading to traffic congestion and creating problem for the commuters as the roads have turned narrow. Several two wheelers and pedestrians have already fallen in the trenches which are not covered properly. The work is not being supervised properly too.
“The work has been stopped for almost a month and due to this people are facing lot of problem. The major problem will be in the monsoon which is around the corner as the extracted mud is dumped in the existing rain water drains. If these drains are not cleared and the trenches which are dug for the laying of the pipelines are not packed properly then water logging will take place and water will enter the houses of the surrounding area,” he stated.
Councillor of Ward No. 17 Rane requested the concerned authorities to arrange for a joint inspection or take the necessary action in regards to this on-going work and solve the problem before monsoon.
“I have put forward the issue to the PWD for the last so many days but received only dates and promises from them. On Friday, I have raised this issue with the Chief Engineer, Deputy Collector (disaster management head) and Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council. If they fail to act in this matter we will hold the concerned department responsible for the occurrence of any untoward incident or accident due to this faulty on-going work,” said Rane.
