ANJUNA: The delay in initiating action against any illegality is one of the main reasons, which encourages more and more people to violate the norms and one such example is hill cutting and illegal construction at Small Vagator.
It is learnt that despite such major violations, a New Year party was hosted in the above property right under the nose of the local comunidade.
The Comunidade committees in the State always claim that they are working to protect the land owned by the Gaonkars, but the Anjuna Comunidade appears to have shown the least interest in acting on war footing against the culprits who have illegally encroached upon the Comunidade land and have started developing the same without the consent of any authority including the Comunidade.
So far the actions initiated by concern authorities is nil.
The misery of Anjuna Comunidade and Anjuna Panchayat is such that they required a villager to bring to their notice that their land is being developed illegally.
A DJ-cum-activist had filed a complaint with authorities concerned including the Deputy Collector Bardez, Mamlatdar Bardez, Forest Conservator, Comunidade, TCP and Anjuna-Caisua Village Panchayat seeking immediate action.
The hill cutting is allegedly carried out in property surveyed under no 206 in Anjuna which belongs to the Anjuna Comunidade.
The complainant stated that even after such a serious violation, the property was used to host a New Year party but when the comunidade member was questioned about it, the complainant was told to ignore the same.
“The Comunidade has made letter to TCP seeking action against the illegalities as it is in violation of TCP Rules,” President of Anjuna Comunidade Dominic Pereira said. He denied the allegation of using the land to host a New Year party.
It’s been almost two-and-a-half months that the complaint has been filed but till date there is no concrete action from the authorities concerned especially the Anjuna Comunidade. Surprisingly, a team of the Forest Department visited the site two months after the complaint was filed.
The local panchayat conducted the site inspection on November 10 and had also stopped the work. The panchayat recently issued a show cause.
The comunidade on November 16 issued show cause to the concerned person Mangaldas Govekar seeking his replay within 15 days which he failed to do so. The last date was November 30, but till date there is no action. As per Comunidade, they were waiting for the police and TCP to act on the same.
