VASCO/PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the new signature Zuari Bridge would be inaugurated by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari at 6 pm on December 29. Soon after the inauguration, the one-lane of the bridge would be thrown open for vehicular traffic.
Earlier, in the morning after inspecting the bridge along with PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral and other officials, Sawant had informed that Gadkari will inaugurate the first phase of the bridge on December 26. The inauguration was postponed to December 29 due to unavailability of the Union Minister, he said.
The total length of the bridge is 13.2-km while the elevated length is 8.20-km and the second largest cable-stayed bridge in the country. The total cost of the project is Rs 2530 crore.
“We are opening the first phase of the bridge for motorists considering the traffic congestion witnessed at the Cortalim side. The notification for the traffic movement on this new Zuari bridge will be issued soon,” he said.
PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral said that the second phase of this iconic bridge will be completed by March 2024.
