VASCO: Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing works of the new eight-lane Zuari Bridge, PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar on Wednesday said the bridge would be completed in April 2019.
He said that currently over 30 percent works stand completed and the major portion of bridge pile cap has also been completed by contractor namely Dilip Buildcon Limited.
He was speaking to reporters after reviewing the progress of eight-lane cable stayed Zuari Bridge with split carriageway and elevated four/six lane corridors.
The bridge work is divided into three packages. Package one consists of approach road from Bambolim to Agassaim with elevated road, package two includes the main Zuari Bridge with two observatories and with splint carriage way and package three consists of elevated road from Verna to Cortalim and service road. The original cost for these combined projects is estimated to cost around Rs 3,300 crore and the cost might escalate in future.
“Till date more than 30 percent works on all these three packages have been completed and we are quite confident that the works would be completed as per the schedule time. The only issue is with regards to some additional land requirement on the Goa Velha-Agassaim bypass for which acquisition process is on and once the land is acquired then the work along this stretch will also be taken up on a war footing. We expect that excluding bridge work, two other package works will be completed by April 2019 and since the new bridge has two observatories, it might take another six months to get the bridge work completed and ready for commissioning,” Dhavalikar informed.
