St Joseph’s HS JRC installed
PANJIM: The Junior Red Cross installation ceremony of St Joseph’s High School, Arpora for the academic year 2015-16 was held in the school hall recently. The chief guest for the function was G Ayub Khan, Manager of Corporation Bank, Nagoa. YRC delegate Cyril de Souza administered the JRC pledge to JRC Juniors. Fr Urbano Menezes addressed the students while JRC president Lona Da Silva introduced the newly elected committee to the audience and administered the oath of office to the chairperson Akansha Paswan. Selina proposed the vote of thanks.
Guidelines for Nari Shakti Puraskars revised
PANJIM: The Ministry of Women and Child Development has revised the guidelines for “Nari Shakti Puraskars” (National level Women Awards) to be conferred on eminent women, organizations and institutions. The awards will be conferred on March 8, 2016 on International Women’s Day. With the initiation of the awards, all other awards by the said Ministry to women stand ceased. The awards are applicable to institutions and individuals who have rendered distinguished services to the cause of women in order to recognize the efforts made by women and institutions in rendering distinguished services for the cause of women especially vulnerable and marginalized women. Eminent women, organizations and institutions may submit their applications in the prescribed downloaded format available on the website of the Ministry of Women and Child Development at http://www.wed.nic.in completed in all respects. The applications along with enclosures should be submitted to the office of the Directorate of Women and Child Development, Old Education Bldg, 18 June Road, Panjim 403001 before August 28.
Margao Railway Station to get escalator
PANJIM: As a part of upgradation of passenger amenities, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik has agreed to provide escalator at Margao Railway Station under MPLAD scheme. The total tendered cost of the work amounts to Rs 97 lakh. A cheque amounting Rs 67.74 lakh towards 75% of the total cost was received from the MP for carrying out the work expeditiously. Konkan Railway has already commenced the work, which is likely to be completed in the first week of October.
Discussion forum at Chowgule College
PANJIM: The Department of Psychology of Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science (Autonomous) Margao will organise a discussion forum on ‘Empowering the Girl Child’ on August 27, between 2.15pm and 4.30pm at its upper auditorium. The forum is a platform for sensitising people about various issues related to human behaviour. The forum aims to foster maximal favourable growth of girls and empower them. The registration fee is Rs 50. The panel members include Dr Belinda Mueller, Dr Medha Bakhle, Dr Ranjana Ferrao and Dr Debashish Bagch.
Vailankanni special trains
PANJIM: To clear extra rush of passengers during feast of Our Lady of Good Health at Vailankanni, Konkan Railway in co-ordination with Southern Railway has decided to run additional special trains along the KR route between Thivim and Vailankanni. Train No 00105 Thivim – Vailankanni Reserved Express special train will leave Thivim at 7.05 am on August 28 and reach Vailankanni at 7 am the next day. Train No 00106 Vailankanni – Thivim Reserved Express special train will leave Vailankanni at 11.45 am on August 29 and reach Thivim at 1.30 pm the next day.
