PANJIM: Corporation Bank Goa Zone organized a builders’ meet at the Vidyanagar Branch, Margao, on July 11, where more than 20 builders attended. Robert Menezes (Zonal Head, Corporation Bank) addressed the gathering and explained monsoon magic offer and scheme on home loans, vehicle loans, Corp Vyapar and Corp Doctor Plus. He also requested the builders to get their project approved by the bank and refer maximum housing loan proposals to the bank.
Fatorda farmers furious as sewage enters fields
MARGAO: Farmers cried foul as sewage water gushed out of a broken sewerage pipeline at Fatorda behind the KTC bus stand. Sewage water from the broken pipeline has found its way into the cultivated fields, leaving the beleaguered to contend with foul odour and the prospect of a health hazard. A farmer Succorina Miranda told Herald that sewage water has been flowing into the fields since the last two days, raising a stink in the area. ‘The unbearable odour has left us with no option than to stay away from the fields. The contaminated water now poses a health hazard,” she feared, while demanding that the PWD plugs the leakage by repairing the pipeline on utmost priority. A visit to the site revealed that the PWD has secured the area of the pipeline breakdown with sandbags, but the actual repair of the pipeline is yet to get underway. The sandbags have not made any difference at the site, with the sewage water from the broken sewage line finding its way in the fields.
Suicide victim’s father demands arrests of in-laws
MARGAO: The father of the deceased Veedeshri Parab on Saturday demanded the arrest of her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law in connection with the suicide case. In a representation made to the district police chief, Yeshwant Gauns has threatened to go on a hunger strike if the police fail to arrest the trio by July 22.
He feared that the police inaction will only help Veedeshri’s husband and in laws to move the court for anticipatory bail.
Meanwhile, Margao PI Harish Madkaikar said that investigations into the suicide of the mother-daughter duo is currently underway. He said the police has recorded the statements of a number of neighbours where Veedeshri and her husband were staying at Fatorda. Besides, statements of the family members of the victim have also been recorded today, he added.
