VASCO: The General Secretary of NFF, Olencio Simoes on Wednesday, in the executive committee meeting at Indian Social Institute, New Delhi said that the Cyclone Tauktae and Yaas have created havoc in the five coastal States namely Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal and regretted that State and Union government relief fund were of little help to the fishing community. He urged the governments to revise the guidelines of State and Union government funds for betterment of affected community.
“The State and Union government response and relief to the fishing communities has mere support to the affected communities rather their losses and damages are not taken in account for compensation. Hence, NFF demand both the State and Union government to revise the guidelines of the State Disaster Response Fund and Mitigation Fund to compensate the actual loss of the fishers and the coastal communities”, he said.
NFF also demanded that the Disaster Management Authorities should take measures to devise the fishers centred disasters inclusive guidelines in the post disaster need assessment in order to address the actual loss of the fishers and coastal communities in large.
