The North Goa Bus Owners Association (NGBOA) has clarified that it had never demanded that 50 per cent concession in bus fare to students be revoked even as its president demanded that government should give them 50 per cent concession.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday here, their post-emergency meeting held at T B Cunha Hall in the City, Sudesh Kalangutkar, President, NGBOA said they never made any statement regarding half ticket.
He reiterated their demand saying the government should give them “industry status” so that private bus owners are able to avail of benefits which are available for other industries.
He said, KTC can afford to allow half ticket to students as they receive many concessions from the government.
Briefing about the emergency meeting Sudeep Tamankar, Secretary, NGBOA, said, they confronted with Transport Director Swapnil Naik regarding his alleged statement in one of the local dailies that the government is not in favour of giving hike in bus fare.
The Department of Transport has moved a proposal to the government for effecting a hike in the bus fare, said Tamankar and that they have been informed by the director today.
The bus owners association had threatened to go on strike if their demands were not met while government had assured them to consider their demands. He said they would wait for the government’s response.
