PANJIM: A forum looking out for Children’s Rights in Goa has written to the Chief Secretary (CS), expressing concern about the food security and health of underprivileged children, who could have no access to several basic services during the lockdown.
They point out that such children have been disproportionately hit by the immense health and socio-economic crises brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Goa ProChild Network, a network of civil society organisations and child rights advocates, said they wrote to CS as he is the Chairperson of Goa State Child Protection Society as well as Chairperson of Goa State Disaster Management Authority.
They have demanded that the government notifies the ‘Sponsorship Scheme’ under Integrated Child Protection Scheme, which can provide supplementary support to families to meet medical, nutritional, educational and other needs of their children amid this pandemic, with a view to improving their quality of life.
