NGO asks Ajgaonkar to step down, to protest if he doesn’t

PANJIM: Goencho Avaaz has threatened to protest against Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on the streets for failing to step down despite three deaths at the Sunburn Klassique Electronic Dance Music Festival last month.
The NGO has also decided to “expose the government” on various issues.
“As expected from a beleaguered government, heavily weighed with corrupt ministers and MLAs, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has failed to drop the inefficient and corrupt tourism minister from the Cabinet.
He has thereby indicated, his wholehearted support and approval, for his party colleague to continue on the corruption spree and personal wealth accumulation, including worldwide holiday travel along with family at our taxpayers’ cost, and all this is done without a care of any repercussion,” Swapnesh Sherlekar of Goencho Avaaz said at a press conference on Friday.
Alleging drug overdose into the death of the three tourists at the EDM, the NGO members further said that by refusing to drop Ajgaonkar from the cabinet and “openly extending his wholehearted support to the corrupt practices being pursued by his cabinet colleague, the Chief Minister has exhibited an extremely inhuman and unapologetic nature with respect to the cultural attack on Goa and its people by his government.”
Inaction from Sawant has promoted Goencho Avaaz to organise massive awareness drive to highlight the failure of the minister and the government at large.
“The organisation will raise the level of its protest and commence exposing the government till the present tourism minister is dropped from the cabinet. Our members will hit the road and systematically expose the government for its corrupt practices,” another member Roshan Mathias said.
