NGO complains of illegality in arms depot project at Chicalim

Panchayat assures to revoke construction licence if illegality found in the project

VASCO: Chicalim Panchayat to inspect arms depot project at Assoi Dongri which comes under Chicalim panchayat. The panchayat has assured to revoke construction licence if there are illegalities in the project. 
Niz Goenkar Revolution Front (NGRF) raised the issue over arms Depot project at Assoi Dongri claiming that authorities have buried a natural spring, cut the hill and felled huge trees illegally.
On Saturday, NGRF raised the issue on the proposed arms depot project at Assoi Dongri. Chandrashekar Vasta from NGRF alleged that the authorities have also indulged in hill cutting and felling of huge trees without obtaining permission. The natural spring existing for many years in this area has also been buried.
Vasta further said that their NGRF has made a complaint about such development in the recent past to Forest Department and Flying Squad which has not acted on this issue till now.
He said that there was no sign board at the site nor they have any permission. “A JCB has been used to uproot huge trees. The hill cutting has been done barbaric way endangering the people living in the vicinity. Further, the natural spring has been buried,” he said. 
Vasta also questioned as to how the natural spring can be buried, trees chopped off and the arms depot project come up near residential area.
Vasta claimed TCP permission has not been obtained for the project. “Action needs to be taken over this project by the authorities concerned,” Vasta said.
When contacted, Chicalim Deputy Sarapanch Kamla Prasad Yadav said that the panchayat would inspect the project on Monday. “We will check all the permissions which they have and in case we find any illegality in the project, then the construction licence of this project will be revoked,” Yadav said.
